About the Designer

With the theme being industrial, my interpretation points to an exploration of modular interactive elements through a visual language of metalwork complemented by brutalist tones and medieval characteristics.

My goal for the show was to present a character/look that stretches across several time periods: past, present, future through material and stylistic choices; attempting to speak to the consistency of mankind’s relationship with utilitarianism expressed through industrial aesthetics.

My design style focuses on an interactive modular language that allow the wearer variations in style and function.

About Design One

Look one with Farah features a heavily medieval influenced attire. Characterized specifically by a double layering of 2 GNG ‘MARAUDER’ Sweatpants which boast detachable elements and functional hardware.

The look aims to capture a modern day rogue of sorts, adorned with a layering of elements that can be detached and rearranged to create multiple variations in how one styles or utilizes the functional hardware.

About Design Two

The second look with Brandon, features the GNG Multi-Layered ‘MENACE’ Denim. This piece draws its inspiration from the contradictory harmony seen in eco-brutalism. The choice of a vibrant, distressed, multi-layered green washed denim is meant to retain the characteristics of a brutalist design language, yet still opposing the dark and muted connotations that accompany the concept.

The complex panel work adorned with hardware and distressing against the green acid wash draws inspiration from the concept of eco-brutalism which deals with the relationship between refined man-made structures and an untamed natural fauna. This particular design also explores themes of modularity and functionality as ways to produce stylistic variation.

About Design Three

Featured also in the second look with Brandon is the GNG Armored ROGUE Longsleeves which draws heavy inspiration from a medieval cuirass.

The look also feature the GNG BUTCHER’S Bomber— a multi-functional alligator print leather bomber jacket that converts to a back pack.

Both pieces aim to channel a look that expresses a utilitarian attitude towards modern day streetwear through the contorted lens of medieval industrialism.
